Boy Quoted £33k To Insure Vauxhall Corsa
A teenager has revealed he was quoted £33,000 to insure his second hand Corsa hatchback.
Jake Redshaw, 17 from Eccles Greater Manchester told BBC that he had been checking out price comparison sites and was given a quote by the AA of £32,819.
The company have since admitted this was an error on their behalf and should never have happened, an average quote for a male in his circumstances should be around £3,000 they confirmed.
Jake did admit however that the average quote was around £12,000 with the cheapest coming in at close to £6,000 saying:
"I was amazed because I was expecting to pay £3,000, £4,000, but not that high.
"I can’t insure it. If I want to go out I’ll have to get my mum or dad to drop me off to go out. I can’t be independent as I wanted to be.
"At 18 it apparently goes down, so I’ll have to wait until then. But it’s only a couple of months away so it’s not that bad."
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI) around 42% of accidents either involve a young driver or is caused by one.
Vauxhall Corsa Hatchback leasing is an option if your insurance premiums are astronomical, especially if you are looking at getting a new vehicle. The initial payments when leasing are small compared to purchasing so money saved can be put towards the insurance costs.
